Gordon McElroy is a corporate and commercial solicitor bsaed in Belfast, with over 40 years’ experience advising businesses, business owners and investors across Northern Ireland, as well as on matters involving English and Irish law. Over that time, he has encountered a wide range of commercial situations and brings a depth of experience to his work.
His practice is intentionally broad. He advises owner-managed businesses and established companies across a range of sectors on corporate structures, governance, commercial agreements and strategic transactions, including mergers and acquisitions. Much of his work involves building long-standing relationships and acting as a trusted adviser as clients and their businesses evolve, whether through growth, investment or exit.
He also has significant experience in property and development work, advising on structuring, financing and planning matters. While this remains an important part of his practice, it sits alongside a wider corporate and commercial focus.
Gordon is frequently asked to assist when matters become contentious, including shareholder issues and commercial disputes. He brings a calm and practical approach, with a focus on resolving problems without unnecessary escalation where possible.
In recent years, he has increasingly advised on succession planning, working with clients to address questions of ownership, control and future direction. This often includes considering how businesses may be transferred, reorganised or sold in a way that is both commercially effective and workable in practice.
He also brings experience as a Non-Executive Director, providing a practical perspective on governance, board oversight and strategic decision-making. That experience informs his advice, particularly where legal issues intersect with broader business considerations.
